Schenevus Staff Members Take Home a Trophy

Schenevus Central School District’s Building and Grounds staff proved they are at the top of their game this week as they took home a trophy at an annual custodial workshop at Delaware Academy in Delhi.

The workshop draws school districts from the ONC BOCES and DCMO BOCES regions and is intended to give participants the latest information on a variety of topics related to their fields. They include: Energy Management, Boiler Maintenance, Restroom Cleaning, Personal Protective Equipment, Hardwood Floor Care, Carpet Car, Turf Management, Fire Extinguisher Training, HVAC Maintenance and Electrical Safety & Troubleshooting.

Bob Hoepker, Sue Chase, Ray Misner and Thomas Muscarella represented Schenevus at the event.

The workshop was a little different this year and featured a competition that put building and maintenance skills to the test.

“This year, to keep it interesting for a long day, they incorporated a skills competition after the classes. I told them when they left that morning to bring home the trophy and they did not disappoint me,” Building and Grounds Superintendent Joe Bomba said. “It’s pretty good. It shows they are learning the skills that are required to do the job.”

Muscarella placed second in a competition involving the disassembly of a flush valve. Hoepker took first in a competition involving driving a floor scrubber. The workers also took two team first place finishes in the bucket brigade and discus floor pad toss events. Their performances earned them a trophy as the top school district, and they also each got individual gift certificates to area stores.
