Fall 2010 PARENTING GROUPS AND WORKSHOPS To register for any of the workshops or groups listed below, please call The Family Service Association at 432-2870. Free childcare and refreshments, and limited help with transportation will be provided. One lucky person will receive a great door prize after each meeting. ITS HOMEWORK TIME First United Methodist Church September 29th 66 Chestnut Street October 6th and 13th Oneonta, New York 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday mornings September 30th October 7th and 14th 9:30 to noon HELP! IT’S HOMEWORK TIME: This series of three sessions is based on the book HELP! IT’S HOMEWORK TIME from Lee Canter’s Effective Parenting Books series. These workshops will provide an opportunity for parents and caregivers to learn ways to help and support kids with homework and school projects. The information that will be offered is appropriate to use for students ages 6 years to adult. Each participant who attends all three sessions will have the opportunity to make a homework supply box to help kids complete homework assignments. HELP! It’s Homework Time! The Parenting Resource Center at The Family Service Association will be offering three free workshops that will focus on helping children get organized so they can get their homework completed. The dates for the workshops are: Morning series: Thursday, September 30th 9:30 – 12:00 Thursday, October 7th 9:30 – 12:00 Thursday, October 14th 9:30 – 12:00 Evening series: Wednesday, September 29th 6:00 - 8:30 Wednesday, October 6th 6:00 – 8:30 Wednesday, October 13th 6:00 – 8:30 Choose to attend on Wednesday evenings or Thursday mornings. Free child care and refreshments will be provided. Topics will include Understanding Legal Jams, How to Avoid and Stay out of Legal Jams, Miranda Rights, Dealing With Authority, and Situations in Which Teens Get Into Legal Trouble and What Parents Need to Know to Protect Themselves and Their Teens. ******************************************** Thursday mornings PUNISHMENT OR DISCIPLINE First United Methodist Church November 4th and 18th 66 Chestnut Street 9:30 to noon Oneonta, New York What is the difference between punishment and discipline? Is there a difference? Join us as we look at the differences between the two and discuss what works with children of all ages. ****************************************** Wednesday evenings KIDS IN THE MIDDLE First United Methodist Church November 10th and 17th 66 Chestnut Street December 1st and 15th Oneonta, New York 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.. KIDS IN THE MIDDLE is a four session program that addresses the needs of children who live in more than one home. We look at what is positive for children who live in more than one home and what things may be difficult for them as they go between homes. Through the discussion and activities we talk about what adults can do to make the move between homes easier for children. ************************************* Thursday morning HOLIDAY STRESS First United Methodist Church December 9th 66 Chestnut Street 9:30 to Noon Oneonta, New York The holiday season can be stressful for both parents and children.
